THE ART OF SUNDAY: WHERE TO GO FOR EASTER SUNDAY LUNCH IN LONDON

THE ART OF SUNDAY: WHERE TO GO FOR EASTER SUNDAY LUNCH IN LONDON

While it might not be quite as popular as Christmas, Easter is definitely up there as one of the UK’s most beloved holidays. Often falling close to the spring equinox, it not only gives us four days off work and permission to stuff our faces with all the chocolate we want, but it also heralds the arrival of warmer weather and longer days after the gloom of winter – which, lets face it, we’re already over by the time Christmas has come and gone.

Easter Sunday falls on 20th April this year, making it one of the latest in recent years, but though we have to wait a little longer for it than usual, it does mean that there’s a far higher chance of it being a chance to enjoy a little sunshine over the double bank holiday weekend – perhaps even an opportunity to break out the BBQ or picnic blanket… and did someone say Pimm’s O’Clock?

Why Easter Sunday Lunch is a Beloved British Tradition

That said, whatever you get up to for the rest of the weekend, you can’t monkey with the tradition of an Easter Sunday lunch itself – much like having roast turkey for Christmas dinner, it’s sacrosanct for culinary purists to eat roast lamb at Easter. Especially if it’s served with mint sauce, red currant jelly, Jersey Royals and seasonal spring greens like peas, carrots and asparagus. Why lamb? Well, the origins of eating roast lamb for Easter are believed to have been inspired by the Jewish holiday of Passover, when lamb was eaten to symbolise Jesus Christ as the literal sacrificial lamb, but it’s no coincidence that it is in season at this time of year and especially delicious. It’s a no-brainer, basically, and who are we to argue

Springtime Feasting: Easter Menus Beyond Roast Lamb

Of course, in all seriousness, there’s no reason why it has to be lamb. At Cubitt House pubs, everyone can choose whichever meat is their favourite from our Sunday lunch menu, with delicious fish and vegetarian options galore too (salt-baked celeriac, yes please!) plus seasonal specials that make the most of spring’s bountiful ingredients. Whether you opt for lamp chops with mint sauce, pork belly with Bramley apple sauce, Angus beef rump with horseradish crème fraiche, or herb roasted cauliflower with parmesan and fontina sauce, there’s something for everyone’s taste buds.

We’ve even got sharer Sunday roasts too, so that you can tuck in en famille to mountains of olive oil-roasted potatoes, seasonal greens, Yorkshire puddings and Madeira gravy – because let’s face it, a big part of the appeal of the Sunday roast is the sides. Children aren’t forgotten either, with a kids menu of classic pub pleasers, including margherita pizzas and hake goujons and chips.

Why a Sunday Lunch at Cubitt House Makes Easter Effortless

After all, the point of Easter is to be together, not to eat the same thing. In fact, that’s another reason why dining out for Easter lunch is such a good idea, to be honest – everyone’s happy because everyone is catered for. And at the Cubitt House pubs we’ve got the perfect atmosphere to help you relax and unwind from life’s daily stresses, with cosy interiors, sun-trap terraces (if the weather plays ball…) and elegant interiors that will make you want to stay all afternoon. Your shoulders will relax the minute you walk through the door – or certainly after a local craft beer, expertly mixed cocktail or a few glasses of wine, anyway…

Where to Buy Handmade Chocolate Easter Eggs in London

And don’t worry chocoholics – we haven’t forgotten the most important Easter tradition of all – chocolate Easter eggs. All of the pubs will be selling their own versions, designed to please all palettes from our youngest to our oldest patrons (we see you, Grandad). It’s the perfect sweet treat to end your meal, if you’re not picking one of our classic desserts, like Amalfi lemon and rhubarb pavlova or tiramisu (both springtime favourites). Or better yet, you can drop by and pick one up to surprise your loved ones with on Easter morning – if you can wait that long to eat them. And it sure beats a petrol station half-price Creme Egg hastily bought on the day too, making them a great last-minute gift.

Celebrate Easter Sunday in Style With Cubitt House

This Easter, avoid last minute fights over what’s on the menu, how many Easter Eggs you’ve got, or who is doing the washing up, and head to a Cubitt House pub near you instead. We’ll take care of all of that for you.

So what are you waiting for? Book your Easter Sunday feast with Cubitt House now.
