WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS: BEST PUBS TO WATCH THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT IN LONDON

Wimbledon isn’t just a tennis tournament; it’s a British institution. Synonymous with grass courts, royal guests and strawberries and cream, it’s the one time of year we all become armchair experts in drop shots and deuce. And this July, the best place to watch Wimbledon live in London? Your favourite Cubitt House pub, of course.

A Little Love for Wimbledon History

First held in 1877, the Wimbledon Championships are the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and the only one still played on grass. Hosted at the All England Club in southwest London, it’s a sporting event steeped in tradition, from players dressed head-to-toe in white to centre court’s famous retractable roof (a relatively modern addition that’s saved many a soggy semi-final). There’s a reverence about it, but not without its quirks. Spectators still queue overnight for tickets, and applause is as much about etiquette as enthusiasm.

Then there’s the strawberries and cream. A tradition dating back to the very first tournaments, it’s now a pairing as iconic as Henman Hill (or Murray Mound, depending on your generation) and rain delays. During the Wimbledon fortnight, around 200,000 portions of strawberries and cream are served, best enjoyed with a cold glass of Pimm’s, naturally. Add in ball boys and ball girls trained like military cadets and the occasional royal appearance in the front row, and you’ve got a truly British blend of sport, ceremony and summer spirit.

Game. Set. Pimm’s.

From the first match through to the Wimbledon Final, we’ll be screening the tournament in the downstairs bars at all Cubitt House pubs. Think refreshing drinks and bar stool banter, from the early rounds to the centre court showdowns.

Whether you’re catching the Wimbledon men’s final, the women’s doubles or simply in it for the strawberries, we’ve got the perfect perch. Pull up a chair, order a Pimm’s & Lemonade, and soak in the atmosphere as the All England Club serves up its finest.
