PEYK ARAK, PERSIAN RAISIN BRANDY

PEYK ARAK, PERSIAN RAISIN BRANDY

Peyk is deeply rooted in Persian heritage yet refreshingly contemporary. It's not just a drink, but an experience. Truly, a masterpiece in a bottle.

Developed by Arash, our Bar manager at The Grazing Goat, Peyk is a refined and delicious raisin brandy with it’s history deeply rooted in Persian culture. A testament to Persian craft distilling, part of Arash’s heritage. Only the very best quality of raisins are used and there is absolutely no added sugar or flavouring. All distilled using traditional techniques in a distillery in Kent, which is all 100% run on renewable energy.

Peyk Arak is a mesmerizing dance of flavors, deeply rooted in Persian heritage yet refreshingly contemporary. Each taste evokes memories of ancient traditions while introducing a modern sophistication. It’s not just a drink, but an experience. Truly, a masterpiece in a bottle.

The rich tapestry of Persian culture, with its colorful traditions, poetic expressions, and intricate art, has an often overlooked yet influential thread woven through it: the historical presence and consumption of alcohol. Persia, known today as Iran, has had a complicated relationship with alcohol, from its celebration in ancient times to its prohibition in the modern era.

While wine has its place in history, it’s hard to discuss alcohol in Persia without mentioning Arak, a traditional Raisin flavoured spirit. Consumed widely in social and ceremonial settings, Arak was often enjoyed alongside traditional dishes, its potent flavor complementing the rich tastes of Persian cuisine.

With the advent of Islam, the consumption of alcohol faced periods of prohibition due to religious injunctions. However, despite official bans, the production and consumption of alcohol persisted discreetly. The underground wine and arak production became a silent act of resistance for some, a way to hold onto age-old traditions in changing times.

The history of alcohol in Persia is as intricate and layered as its most celebrated carpets. From the ancient vineyards of Shiraz to the clandestine Arak gatherings of the modern era, the spirit of alcohol has left an indelible mark on Persian culture, literature, and traditions. In every sip of Arak or every poetic ode to wine, one can find a reflection of a civilization that has loved, lost, celebrated, and evolved through the ages.

You can enjoy Peyk at any of our Cubitt House pubs. Order a glass of Peyk, take a sip and be whisked to Persian lands. We also have some especially crafted Peyk cocktails.  Just ask Arash or any of our bar teams to mix you up one of them and sit back and enjoy.

There’s a Cosmo Sour, a Grapefruit Spritz or a Peyk Negroni to choose from. Take a look at our drinks list for all the details. All three cocktails are  always available at The Grazing Goat with both the Peyk Negroni and Grapefruit Spritz available across all our Cubitt House pubs.
