There’s nowhere quite like London in the summer. As soon as the mercury rises, people spill out of pubs and onto the pavement, taking advantage of every last patch of sunshine possible – we’re like lizards on a rock in that respect, we just can’t get enough. And with pub garden real estate shockingly low thanks to the city’s hectic and jam-packed design, when you do find a terrace you like, you’ll likely never negotiate with traffic, cyclists and pedestrians to try to have a pint while clinging to the curb outside the pub ever again.

Pubs with Terraces in London Worth Knowing About
Here at Cubitt House, we’re not about gatekeeping, which is why we’re happy to share that we have some of the very best al fresco spots in the capital. Six of our eight pubs offer a fantastic outdoor space for eating, drinking and just generally soaking up those oh-so precious rays, with jovial atmospheres, comfortable seating, plenty of shade and vibes galore guaranteed. Of course, you can also dine outside from our Mediterranean-inspired menus: whether you’re in the mood for some pub snacks and craft ales or a pizza and bottle of wine (or all of the above, we don’t judge…)

Alfresco Dining in Central London: Belgravia and Marylebone Favourites
At our namesake pub, The Thomas Cubitt, we’ve got covered seating on one side of the pavement and more of a sun trap on the other (though there are umbrellas, if you’d rather stick to the shade), with tables of four – though a lot of our punters do share (they’re a friendly bunch). It’s a similar set-up at The Coach Makers Arms, our beautiful corner pub in Marylebone, where we’ve got a smattering of outdoor seating, but The Alfred Tennyson really shows off, with seating stretching around both streets.
Traditional Pub Terraces in Chelsea and Marylebone
For more of a traditional outdoor terrace in front of the pub, with all the space that brings, then head to The Builders Arms in Chelsea or The Grazing Goat in Marylebone. Think of these as traditional beer gardens, albeit on the front of the building, with the same warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The Orange: One of the Best Outdoor Terraces in London
The most enthusiastic of sun worshipers should definitely head to the newly renovated The Orange in Pimlico though, because that’s where the best al fresco spots can be found. We’ve got tables of four on the street outside, all covered with statement orange and white striped parasols (of course) plus our pièce de la résistance, the first floor terrace garden, perfect for catching those end of day rays with a few sundowners. Lined with green plants and super cosy, we defy you to name a better sun trap in London. We’ll wait.

Sun-Drenched Indoor Spaces for a Touch of Alfresco Energy
Of course, sometimes you want the benefits of the sunshine without actually being outside (thanks, hayfever). That’s where our sun-drenched indoor spaces come in. If that’s you, then bask in the heat of The Conservatory at The Princess Royal in Notting Hill; book The Atrium at The Thomas Cubitt for a private party that guarantees sunshine, or have a Mediterranean-influenced dinner in The Restaurant at The Coach Makers Arms, which has massive windows that let the light in.
Book a Table at One of the Best Spots for Alfresco Dining in London
At the end of the day, at Cubitt House we know that you have to make the most of the summer when it comes, because more often than not, it doesn’t stick around. Book a table outside now, or take your chances on a walk-in spot.
